Today began with a meeting. I had one of our twice monthly Leadership Council meetings to attend this morning at 7. We talked about some issues that we have been working on for several months now and will present our final actions to our whole group at a meeting next week. But, before that, we will have a special meeting next Monday morning to see how these actions will work using real data generated by some members of our group. Unfortunately, I will not be there for either the Monday morning or the Tuesday group meeting as Delanae and I will be gone camping again next week. This time we are driving south and going to Crater Lake and northern California. This time off has been planned for several months and I am not about to change it for anything.
The rest of my day at work was pretty uneventful until the end. I was fairly steadily busy all day, steadily for the summer when our patient volumes are generally down. I did have all my slots filled but not all showed which again is not unusual. Especially when we are having nice weather like we are now; temperatures in the 80's with clear skies. Unusual for before July 4th but we will take it. July 4th itself is supposed to see temperatures still in the middle 80's and no rain. It will be our first 4th here that it has not been cloudy and rainy at least part of the day.
Anyway, the day went by fairly steadily but my last patient of the day needed an x-ray. The patient was sent to get an x-ray around 5 and did not get back with the x-ray until almost 6:30. This is fairly typical and meant I had to hang around and wait for the patient to get back to the office; otherwise I could have been out and gone by 6 probably. Nothing I can do about it because I have tried. Expanding the x-ray department is on the board and will be done but until then waits like this are common. Luckily, the patient was not upset about the time it took.
I stopped and ran around Lake Sacajawea tonight before coming home. There are food tents and craft and flea market tents set up for the big Go 4th celebration on July 4th which will be capped off by the Concert in the Sky that night. This will feature fireworks choreographed with a choir singing patriotic music at the lake. This part is presented by our church as a gift to the city of Longview. Delanae is singing in the choir and has been working hard for about three months on the music for this event. It should be a great show for tens of thousands of people.
