Hectic Monday today! I had a meeting at 7 this morning and several patients to see in the hospital before I started my office hours at 9:30. I managed to see them and get to the office on time. The office was packed today with lots of messages and refills to do also. It looked like a winter day rather than a summer day when it was warm and clear. A lot of times those kind of days will be slower but not today. I hope it slows down some tomorrow, especially tomorrow night while I am on call. The hospital census is up so it will probably be busy.
My memory for the new motherboard came today. The motherboard, processor, and power supply have not arrived as yet, however. Crucial memory is shipped UPS 2 day air unless you need it overnight which means I get it in two working days each time. The other hardware is being shipped via Federal Express and the website says it should be here tomorrow. That figures, I will be on call tomorrow night and probably won't be home until very late.

Call last night wasn't too bad as I did not have to admit any patients to the hospital but I did get calls throughout the night which meant I got very little uninterrupted sleep. I also did not get a chance to update this journal last night as you have probably noticed.
The office yesterday was very busy again so Monday was not an anomaly but rather part of a trend it appears. I talked to a couple of physicians in other practices and they were very busy Monday as well. All of our clinicians are back from vacation now so our team is up to full strength again for another week or so. Then, two will be gone again for a couple of days taking their board exams. They are looking forward to that about like someone looks forward to having a root canal done. We all have done it, however, and I and the other family physicians have to recertify every seven years with my next recertification exam due in 2005. I will take it in 2004 however which gives me a year to retake it if I do not pass. That is more of a fear the longer I am out from residency since the board exams are not just on practical things but the basic science from medical school. You tend to forget some of the details the longer you are away from medical school which is another reason why I take a review course at least every other year.
Now, for computer news. My new motherboard, processor, and power supply came yesterday and I put the memory in last night. Once I finish writing this I am going to start pulling the old motherboard, processor, and power supply out and install the new one. That means updates will likely be spotty over the next few days as I reinstall all my applications, operating system, and the hardware. I am trying to get this done before we leave for the beach Friday afternoon so wish me luck. I will write up what happened as soon as I am finished. I am sure it will be an adventure that I will learn a lot from which will help when I build my complete new system. See you later.
