My computer is now working as I had planned. My display problems are now fixed. I ended up having to download the reference drivers from the nVIDIA web site and install them. Everything now works as advertised. I am finally happy with what I have built. I am running 1024x768 at 75HZ refresh rate with 32 bit color which is where I wanted to be.

I missed updating last night trying to get my display problems fixed. Downloading large files such as drivers takes a long time on dial-up but that is the price you pay for living in an area that has very limited DSL service and no cable modem service yet. DSL service is limited to only those very close to the center of town which leaves us out in the cold, so to speak. They have laid the fiberoptic cable up here now, just finishing up last week so we should have cable modem service in the not too distant future.

At work yesterday was fairly slow but today made up for it. Yesterday I had several no-shows as did others in my group. I don't know why everyone picks the same day to no-show but they all picked yesterday. Today we had people walk in and zero no shows. Nothing different about today over yesterday that I could see. The updated electronic medical software is working well except when the servers go down as happened a couple of times today. I do not know what happened with them as they are centrally located north of here in a suburb of Seattle. They came back up pretty quickly though so it was not a major problem.

I have only one person left in the hospital. I will see him tomorrow morning after my 8 AM meeting and before my 10 AM meeting at the nursing home where I am medical director. I also need to catch up on my medical records in the hospital, some charts need signing. I can do all that in the morning and have tomorrow afternoon to be away from the hospital and office.

I'm still tweaking my system. Now I am trying to get my dial-up connection to be faster. I have a U.S. Robotics V.92 modem which will not connect at anywhere near 56k. I know there are other variables involved such as the telephone line but it connects at a much faster transfer rate on one dial-up connection (AT&T) than it does on the other (EarthLink). I thought I had the EarthLink connection optimized but I guess I do not so I am going to go back and reinstall it following the step by step directions from their web site. Unfortunately, this external modem is negotiating slower transfer rates from the same dial-up numbers than did my old Acura internal modem. I did download and flashed the ROM update for this new modem and have the latest drivers installed for Windows 2000. Hopefully reconfiguring the connection will do the trick.

I had two meetings today, one of which was at the nursing home where I recently became the medical director. This was my first meeting there with all the management staff and will occur once a quarter unless needed on a more frequent basis. The meeting did not last a long time and hopefully will not in the future. The other one was my videoconference and concerned the recent upgrade of our electronic medical record software at the office. It too was shorter than I had expected.

Tomorrow night I am on call. Don't expect an update tomorrow night or Friday night as Stephen's team has a game in Camas which is about an hour south of here. I will go to it and hopefully it will not be raining as hard for that game as it was last year for this game. For some reason it is being played there two years in a row. I do not know the reason why.

Call was OK, Stephen's varsity team lost their game, and we watched two movies last night. There, that catches you up on the last three days. We watched the movies while waiting for Stephen to come home. He had gone to a concert by a band made up of some friends of his. No report on how the concert was yet. That will come later after he catches up on his sleep.

Today would be a good day for napping as it is blustery and very wet here today. The first storm of the winter is blowing in here today and tomorrow and there should be some snow for the mountains out of this one. For us it means that it will be wet running this afternoon and wet for Stephen's junior varsity game tomorrow night. Today's run will be short as I did an hour run yesterday on a road behind us that has more than the usual steep inclines. This kind of weather also serves to remind me that I do have a NordicTrack which I will make use of some this winter. Daylight Saving Time ends one week from today so it will start being dark before I finish seeing patients at the office RSN.

I have all the tools and unused screws from building my new system picked up now. Now it is time to get my office straightened up again so I can find things once again. I can start after I run this afternoon and before we go to church tonight for an important event. Tonight the church is going to vote whether or not to accept the pastor nominated by the leadership of the church. It turns out that the candidate speaking today was the major professor of our now departed pastor while he was teaching at bible college. He says he feels very funny about possibly replacing the his former student but the leadership of our church feel he is the one God has chosen to lead the church now. We will see tonight how the rest of the membership feels.

Now, I must go and face the elements. Maybe more later and if not then this coming week.
